This is how I want you to picture me when I write these blogs. Holy shit, what a whirlwind May has been. It's always a hectic month for me for a myriad of reasons - two birthdays, a three-day charity marathon I never miss, busy season at work, public fairs and barbecues, the list goes on! - but it's been especially busy as I continue to build my little private space station slash strip club that I call a website! It's a labor of love, honestly. I barely even registered it when it happened, but I'm shocked and tickled that we've hit 30k views already. I'm actively avoiding trying to watch the numbers, but it's the first thing I see when I pull up my dashboard every day, so it's impossible NOT to notice it. And I'm allowed to be happy about it, considering this is nothing but a passion project instead of a private Patreon page or whatever. Thank you, genuinely, for stopping by! Speaking of the site, it's really starting to take shape into what I had in mind for it! The Music section now has individual pages for each album, with a little blurb and a music player that plays a 2-minute "sampler pack" of songs from the album, hosted ON-SITE so you don't have to click through to Bandcamp to hear what I'm talking about. It may not sound like much on paper, but that's a big improvement in my eyes! Making those sampler packs also gave me a chance to listen back to some of the older songs I haven't even thought about in YEARS. I've improved a lot since 2017, now that I've (mostly) stopped outright stealing song melodies. Still, some of those old tracks are absolute bangers, and it was a pleasant surprise hearing how good they still are! Very proud of the new Writing section updates as well, since I've been adding more chapters from other novels like Cyberotique. Still got a ton to go through, and my swelling itching brain is burning with a desire to "fix" all the stilted prose and dialogue I come across as I prep and format it for the site. I'm trying to find a happy medium between simply posting my original works cringe and all versus tidying them up a bit so they sound more like The Modern Me wrote them, but it's been a hell of a challenge! One other subtle change I've been trying to make site-wide is reducing the overall size of the gifs I use everywhere. Listen, I don't care what the public opinion is, I fucking LOVE gifs. I saturate all my Reviews with them to emphasize my points, but also to share these little snippets of animation that I find joy in, especially those that loop seamlessly. I actually put a LOT of stock into each gif I make (i.e. where is the loop point, does it convey a singular meaning, is it too long for a single image, should I add/remove subtitles, etc), but that's beside the point. Reviews were taking way too long to load because they'd have 100 MB worth of gifs in them, so I'm trying to squish them down a bit (a lot) to make that easier. It's a work in progress for now. In meatspace news, summer is here and I'm officially miserable. I'm a pasty bitch from the northwest-most part of the Pacific Northwest (basically an honorary Canadian in some respects), so summer and me are mortal enemies. I'm long overdue for a haircut, so I need to get that taken care of soon. It'll be nice going back to my thick ruffled bob rather than full-time ponytail. I don't know what bullshit my dad was on when he told me not to grow my hair out, but I have never looked cuter than with a floofy head full of chin-to-shoulder length hair. Who's laughing now, dad?! And of course, with June rapidly approaching, Pride is coming up right alongside it. I wanted to put together some kind of drag costume for it this year, but they way things have been, it simply isn't happening. Aside from me completely forgetting that I have a beautiful pair of prosthetic H-cup gag boobs I can wear any time, I never did get myself a bra for those things, nor did I ever decide on "a look" that would suit my Space Vixen vibe to match their sheer size and energy. Maybe one of these days I'll get back on that. Too much going on here, there, and everywhere right now, though. And even though Pride is about coming out, it still feels a little unsafe to be visibly genderfucky in this moment, you feel me? Sigh. Maria Brink give me strength to one day truly be the whore I know I can be. Anyway, what else? I finally jumped on the bandwagon and started watching Delicious In Dungeon. It's wild to actually be watching the same thing as everyone else for a change, doubly so since this anime is fucking delicious. It's got a LOT of character and a wild premise, and embraces both its humorous and dramatic sides in perfect stride, just like the old Slayers classics I grew up with. It's also one of the most animated shows I've seen in a good long while (thanks Studio Trigger and all the money that was poured into this production!), and there will most DEFINITELY be a Review coming in near the future! Also, Train To The End of The World. Most underappreciated anime of the season, bar none. Holy shit, what a fun series. Still toying with the idea of adding some Game and/or Movie reviews to the pile. Right now I'm too deep in regular series watching to really add more to the plate - especially since I've started digging up some older gems I watched a while back that deserve a full review, like Kipo & The Age of Wonderbeasts and Motorcity - so I might 86 that idea. Or maybe just keep it in the trunk for further down the road. Who knows, this website is still young, and it's not going anywhere any time soon! Lastly, only three tracks to go until Bimbo In Limbo is finished, and I couldn't be fucking happier about that! It's been such a challenge trying to get these songs figured out, because my "musical direction" has changed so much between Nonbinary Star, Subjectively Real Experience, and now. Bimbo has some of the longest, hardest songs I've ever attempted (one already clocks in at 8:00 in length), and I keep thinking up cool new ways to experiment with sounds and ideas. I can't wait for everyone to finally hear it! Alright, that's all for this entry. Time to get back in the studio and make some magic. Stay awesome, space cadets!
