Ask Ice Queen & Fionna

A long time ago - probably circa 2012 or 2013 - I got really hyperfixated on Adventure Time and fell down a serious rabbit hole of shipping Ice Queen with Fionna.

See, In their first appearance, after their little fight, Prince Gumball starts coming on to Fionna romantically, taking her on a date, giving her a new sword, serenading her with fireworks, then inviting her to his ball. He then takes her upstairs to a private room, and makes a move, revealing that it's been Ice Queen inside a Prince Gumball suit the entire time, hoping to get Fionna off her guard so she can eliminate her and snatch up the Prince with no resistance.

But some friends and I were analyzing that episode for a podcast and noted that even if it was a ruse, the queen still bothered to take Fionna out on a date and rile her up emotionally, so we used that an excuse to create a bizarre ship for them. I ended up drawing a butt ton of fan art and mini-comics, a sprawling 23-chapter fanfic (easily the biggest and most daunting thing I've ever created), and eventually starting a somewhat short-lived Ask Blog on Tumblr where I took random questions from interested followers and made short little comics out of them.

I'm impressed with how long that creative muse lasted - I still think about them from time to time! - but if nothing else, running this blog was a good excuse to practice scene writing, drawing, and to draw my favorite May/December lesbian romance. It's a little embarrassing to look back on, but I'm glad I did it!
